Alice’s Mood Springs Strike Again: Blatherskite Park Takes a Beating!

If there’s one thing we know about Alice Springs, it’s that the weather likes to keep us on our toes. But the recent storms? Well, Alice’s Mood Springs have been working overtime!
The wild weather that swept through Alice Springs on Monday, 12 October, certainly made its presence felt, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain and hail to town. With wind gusts reaching close to 100 km/h, it was a serious reminder that the Red Centre can throw just about anything our way.
And unfortunately, Blatherskite Park copped its fair share of the chaos.
Our beloved showgrounds have seen plenty of action over the years, but this was certainly not the kind of excitement we had planned!
Among the sights greeting us after the storm was Ticket Box 4, which appears to have decided that standing upright was simply overrated.
Yep, Ticket Box 4 is officially on its side!
The pavilions now have sky views thanks to hail holes, A LOT of big tree branches fell down and CLP’s shed roof decided it didn’t want to roof anymore.
While we can have a little laugh at some of the unexpected sights around the grounds, the damage is a reminder of just how powerful these storms can be.
Blatherskite Park is a big part of our community, hosting everything from the Alice Springs Show to sporting events, exhibitions and community gatherings. Seeing the grounds take a hit is never easy, but if there’s one thing we know about the people of Alice Springs, it’s that we’re a resilient bunch.
It’s Not Just Blatherskite Park
Our thoughts are also with everyone across Alice Springs who has been affected by the wild weather.
From fallen trees and damaged fences to roof damage and widespread power outages, the storm has caused disruption right across town. We know many households and local businesses have been dealing with the aftermath, and our hearts go out to everyone cleaning up, making repairs and trying to get back to normal.
Most importantly, we hope you, your family, friends and neighbours are safe. If you can, check in on those around you, particularly anyone who might need a helping hand.
Alice Springs has always been a community that looks out for its own, and times like these are when that spirit really shines.
A Little Patience, A Lot of Territory Spirit
We’re taking things one step at a time as we assess the damage and work out what needs attention around Blatherskite Park.
And to Mother Nature? We appreciate the occasional bit of rain, but next time, perhaps a gentle sprinkle will do. We don’t need Ticket Box 4 auditioning for a gymnastics team!
The Alice Springs Show is about community, connection, local pride and celebrating everything that makes the Red Centre special. That spirit doesn't disappear when the weather turns wild.
We’ll keep working through the clean-up, keep an eye on our community and get Blatherskite Park back on its feet.
Until then, stay safe, look after each other and keep an eye on the weather updates.
Alice Springs, we love you - even when your Mood Springs are a little out of control.
From all of us at the Alice Springs Show team.
